Florida safety Kamari Wilson expected to enter transfer portal
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators sophomore safety Kamari Wilson is expected to enter the transfer portal, sources confirmed to Gators Online. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Wilson, who’s from Fort Pierce, Fla., played in all 13 games for the Gators in 2022. As a freshman, he made two starts and had his college debut in the season-opening win over Utah. He finished his rookie season with 39 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup.
This year, Wilson was expected to earn a starting job at safety but was beaten out by true freshman Jordan Castell and fellow sophomore Miguel Mitchell. Wilson played sparingly in 2023 and registered only one tackle.
When Florida hosted the Charlotte 49ers, Wilson wasn’t seen with the team during pregame warmups or on the sideline in the first quarter. Wilson walked out of the south endzone tunnel during the game, in shorts and his jersey, and on to the Florida sideline. He was quickly walked back off the field by strength and conditioning assistant speed coach Ed Thompson, who escorted Wilson back into the tunnel and toward the Florida locker room.
“Kamari Wilson didn’t make the travel roster this week,” Napier said when he was asked after the game. “We can take 80 to the hotel and Kamari wasn’t on that list. Yeah, I mean, that’s pretty simple.”

A 4-star recruit in the 2022 cycle, Wilson was the third-ranked safety in his class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was Billy Napier’s highest-rated signee in his first class.
Wilson is the second Florida defensive back to leave the team. Senior Jadarrius Perkins announced his intention to enter the portal as a graduate transfer earlier this month.
Track transfer portal activity
While the NCAA transfer portal database is private, the On3 Network has streamlined the reporting process tracking player movement.
If you find yourself asking, ‘How can I track transfer portal activity?’ our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways, from articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal or find their new destination, to our social media channels, to the On3 Transfer Portal.
The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking, and original On3 Consensus recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image, and likeness).
