Florida Gators set a date for 2023 Spring Game
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators have a date set for the 2023 Spring game. The Orange and Blue Debut will be held on Thursday, April 13 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
UF’s annual spring game will serve as a way for fans to experience a Gators game day at the Swamp.
More details about the game, including streaming and broadcast information, fan initiatives and kickoff time will be announced at a later date. It was not clear if admission to the game will be free, as it was for the 2022 contest held last April.
The spring game will be the culmination of spring practice. Practices can be conducted over a 34-day period with 20 hours per week of unrestricted activities. Given the date of the spring game that would put the start of spring camp around February 27. Players must receive one day off per week. 15 on-field practice sessions may be held, with no more than 12 involving contact. Full contact may not occur until the third practice.
Florida says that the Thursday night game allows them to promote and gain a national audience, giving the University of Florida the national spotlight. It also creates an opportunity for the staff to host and interact with some of the top recruits in the nation. Having the game on a weekday allows Florida to not compete with other schools that typically hold their spring games on Saturday.

Gators spring game on a Thursday for the second year in a row
This is the second year in a row that the game will not be held on a Saturday. Last year the game was moved from Saturday to a Thursday in an effort to not run into a log jam that included Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina and Miami among a dozen other schools who had games scheduled for that Saturday.
“This is going to create an opportunity for us to engage the student body for the first time. We are going to be able to get them here prior to Easter break. We’re going to have some of the best recruits in the entire country here to show them what the University of Florida and Gator Nation are all about,” Napier said last year. “Again, this is a personal invitation for you guys to join us. We look forward to the challenges and the opportunities that are ahead of us.”
