Florida Gators taking over SEC Network on July 5
The Florida Gators will be taking over SEC Network on Tuesday, July 5th. The network will broadcast a full 24 hours of UF programming, starting at midnight with the 2022 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships from 2022.
The full lineup will feature the 2022 Orange and Blue Debut, SEC outdoor track and field championship, Florida’s walk-off win over FSU in baseball, the SEC Storied feature “Wuerffel’s Way”, and two features on the gymnastics SEC Championship.
The Gators’ baseball win over Florida State was a thriller in Gainesville. Sterlin Thompson walked to the plate 0-2 on the night with a pair of strikeouts. The game against No. 20 Florida State was tied 5-5. FSU manager went to the bullpen to bring in a left-hander to face the lefty Thompson. Andrew Armstrong started Thompson with a slider that landed for a called strike. A pick-off attempt, slider that missed the zone, and another pick-off attempt would set the stage.
With an exit velocity of 106 and an estimated distance of 431 feet, there was no doubt about it. Jud Fabian, who was on deck, launched his own bat and helmet. The Gators’ bullpen emptied as they stormed towards the plate to meet the hero of the game. Thompson didn’t take his time, either.
Gymnastics takes the SEC
Florida gymnastics made it a sweep of 2022 Southeastern Conference trophies Saturday. The Gators won the league regular-season title and then added the SEC Championship meet trophy tonight after tallying the second-highest team total in the event’s 41-year history.

A Gator won four of the meet’s individual event titles. Gator senior Trinity Thomas won the all-around (39.825), vault (9.975) and floor exercise (9.975). Freshman Leanne Wong also used a near-perfect 9.975 to win the balance beam. Auburn’s Sunisa Lee claimed the uneven bars win at 10.0.
Track’s unbelievable season
The Florida men’s track and field team went into the final day at the National Championships down a seemingly insurmountable 54 points only to capture the program’s 5th NCAA Men’s Outdoor National Championship and the tenth national title overall. The women’s team won both the indoor and outdoor National Championships.
It marked the first NCAA Indoor/Outdoor sweep on the women’s side in the program’s history. Florida’s men in 2012 were previously the only other Gator teams to accomplish that feat. It was also the first outdoor championship in the women’s program’s history. It was also the school’s 45th National Championship.
