This year’s edition of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is upon us and when the Florida Gators face No. 2 Georgia on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., it will be the 102nd meeting between the programs.

Overall, the Bulldogs lead the series 55-44-2. Additionally, Georgia has a 49-41-1 edge in Jacksonville.

Both programs have had hot streaks in this rivalry.

The Bulldogs took control of the series in the 1970s and ’80s with a 15-5 mark vs. Florida. But when Steve Spurrier, the former Gators quarterback, returned to Gainesville as head coach, things changed. And since 1990, the Gators are 22-12.

Saturday, Georgia will enter on a three-game run and it’s 6-1 vs. Florida since 2017.

Can Billy Napier and Co. turn the tide?

Florida is 4-3 overall, 2-2 in the SEC; Georgia is 6-1, 4-1. The Gators have won three of their past four games. In the Bulldogs’ most recent game, they beat No. 1 Texas on the road.

Florida-Georgia Game Notes

  • The Gators’ last win over Georgia came in 2020 (44-28).
  • This is the first time Georgia enters this game with a loss since 2020. Prior to this season, the Bulldogs were a combined 21-0 in the previous three meetings from 2021-23 (4-1 in 2020).
  • Napier is 0-2 vs. Georgia. Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart is 6-2 against Florida.
  • True freshman Gators quarterback DJ Lagway had five completions of 40-plus yards in each of his first two career starts. No other Florida quarterback has completed five passes of 40-plus yards in a game in the last 20 years.
  • Florida is the only three-loss team in the country with a perfect record vs. teams ranked outside the current AP Top 10.
  • The Florida defense is coming off its first three-interception game since Nov. 28, 2020. Meanwhile, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has thrown eight picks in his last five games.
  • The Gators are the country’s only program with two qualified receivers averaging 20.0 yards per catch in Elijhah Badger (first – 23.8) and Chimere Dike (16th – 20.0).
  • The Georgia defense allows 304.9 yards a game. That’s 19th-best in the country right now. The Dawgs finished ninth last year in the same category (289.1).
  • Georgia ranks only 95th in rushing offense, at 130.3. One season ago, the Dawgs averaged 191.2 yards a game on 5.3 yards per carry, which was among the SEC’s best rushing attacks.
  • Florida transfer Trevor Etienne leads Georgia with 422 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 82 carries.
  • The Gators only rank 94th nationally in rushing defense (164.3). But they’ve been much better of late. Florida allowed a combined 550 rushing yards in outings against Texas A&M and Mississippi State — but held Tennessee to 143 and Kentucky to 144.
  • Led by first-year analyst Joe Houston, Florida is fourth in the FBS in punt return average (19.62), fifth in net punting (44.65) and 37th in kick return average (22.20).
  • Gators center Jake Slaughter is graded as the No. 6 center in the country (77.7) and has the 10th-best pass block grade (84.4).
  • Florida has given up only 10 sacks this season, which ranks third in the SEC and 34th nationally.
  • Beck is 13th among quarterbacks nationally in passing yards (284.71) and has 15 touchdowns but is only 41st in passing efficiency.
  • The Gators defense enters having multiple takeaways in two straight games. Florida has forced a turnover in six of seven games.
