Florida Golf to face Georgia Tech in NCAA Championship Finals
After a wild 3-2 victory over the Florida State Seminoles, the Florida Gators Men’s Golf team will face Georgia Tech in the 2023 NCAA Men’s Golf NCAA Championship Finals on Wednesday. The Gators will tee off at 4:35 p.m. EST, as Yuxin Lin will begin the quest for the Gators’ fifth national championship. Florida’s road to the national championship was no easy one
A late surge on Tuesday allowed the Gators to make it to the National Championship, as Florida was down 2-0 to the in-state Seminoles at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on Tuesday.
After winning the Individual National Championship, senior Fred Biondi won his match to cut the lead to 2-1. Then, senior John DuBois helped the Gators even it up at two.
After being down 2-0, much, if not all, hope was lost by Florida head coach JC Deacon. Behind an epic performance from Gators’ star Ricky Castillo, Florida came all the way back to defeat the Seminoles, in the 21st hole of the match.

“Earlier we were just dead. It was over,” Deacon said after the victory. “I honestly saw no way of winning it, but if our program’s hands are in anyone’s hands, I want them to be in Ricky’s. When he showed up on campus this whole thing turned around, and I couldn’t be more happy that he got to make that putt for everyone.”
After beating the ‘Noles in the semifinal, Deacon rubbed it in, as rivals should. As you can expect, Deacon’s phone was off the hook after the come-behind victory.
“I don’t know how I’m going to find Spurrier’s [number] in there, but I’m sure he did because he loves golf and he loves beating the ‘Noles,” Deacon told Brentley Romine after the match.
