Florida guard Will Richard makes decision on NBA Draft

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators guard Will Richard announced he intentions to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft while also maintaining his college eligibility. Richard announced via social media on Wednesday.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining my eligibility,” he wrote. “In the event that I return to college, I will be returning to no other than the University of Florida. I have every desire to fulfill my dreams of playing in the NBA and will all for the process and feedback from NBA teams to make a draft decision.”

Richard averaged 11.4 points per game during his junior season with the Gators. He began his collegiate career at Belmont and will have two years of eligibility remaining if he chooses to take his name out of the NBA Draft pool.

However, unlike many in his position, he will not be entering the transfer portal. His teammate, Walter Clayton, made a similar declaration on April 8. Like Richard, Clayton declared for the 2024 NBA Draft but made his backup plan clear.

“I am grateful for being able to come home this past year and be a part of something special being built here in Gainesville,” Clayton posted. “With the support of Coach (Todd) Golden, Coach McCray and the rest of the staff, I want to announce I will be entering my name into the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility for the option to return to no other than the University of Florida. Thank you to everyone for the support.”
