Florida’s Dexter Sr., Torrence named to Outland Trophy Watch List

Florida Gators defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. and offensive guard O’Cyrus Torrence were named to the preseason Outland Trophy Watch List on Tuesday.

The award is given annually to the nation’s best interior lineman in college football.

The Outland Trophy winner will be announced on Dec. 8. The three finalists are selected from the Football Writers Association of America All-America Team.

There are currently 89 players across the country who made the preseason watch list.

The Gators have had two finalists for the award and three semifinalists dating back to 1970 (Jack Youngblood).

The honors continue to roll in for Dexter, Torrence

Both linemen were selected to preseason All-SEC honors on Friday. Dexter was selected to the preseason All-SEC third team while Torrence was selected to the preseason All-SEC first team.

Dexter was named a preseason All-American by Sporting News and Walter Camp. In his first two seasons at UF, he compiled 70 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss for 15 yards, 2.5 sacks for 10 yards, two pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and one interception.

Torrence was tabbed as a preseason All-American by Phil Steele, Sporting News and Walter Camp. He also earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2021 with Louisiana.

UF watch list increases

The Gators now have six players on preseason award watch lists including Dexter and Torrence.

Quarterback Anthony Richardson was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List on July 18 as a candidate for the college player of the year.

Florida running back Nay’Quan Wright was named to the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday as a candidate for the nation’s top college running back.

Pro Football Focus announced Friday UF center Kingsley Eguakun was named to a watch list for the Rimington Trophy as a candidate for the nation’s top center.

UF linebacker Ventrell Miller was named to the Butkus Award Watch List on Monday.
