On Thursday, the rosters for the 2025 Pro Bowl Games were released and among those selected was former Florida Gator Jonathan Greenard.

For the Minnesota Vikings outside linebacker, it marks the first time being selected for the event and he was named a starter. The flag football game is scheduled for Feb. 2 at the University of Central Florida.

So far during the 2024-25 season, Greenard has racked up 54 tackles (37 solo), 11 sacks, four forced fumbles and three pass breakups. He also was named November’s NFC Defensive Player of the Month after finishing with 16 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble and a pass deflection.

That stellar player from Greenard has continously earned the praise of Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell.

“He might be off to the side working his hand usage, or maybe he’s complementing one of his rush moves with working on a new tool there,” O’Connell said several weeks ago. “I think the underrated part is just the all-down aspect of the physicality, setting edges, playing blocks, and then making some plays at or behind the line of scrimmage that set up his chances to then rush the passer.

“As I like to call him, he’s The Closer. How many times this year has he affected the quarterback, drawn a penalty, sacked the quarterback – strip-sacked last week in these critical moments where you need your best players to go make those plays, and he’s done it time and time again.”

Last spring, Greenard signed with the Vikings on a four-year, $72 million deal. Prior to that, he played several seasons with the Texans after being selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
