Former starter Tre'Vez Johnson, several ex-Gators find new homes

Multiple former Florida players found new homes over the weekend, including two-year starter Tre’Vez Johnson. The junior defensive back committed to an SEC Eastern division foe on Sunday, joining the Missouri football program.
He is the second UF player to transfer to the Tigers in as many years, along with linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper. Johnson is one of 23 outgoing transfers for Florida but only the third 2022 starter to leave. Michael Tarquin signed with Southern Cal, while Ethan White remains undecided.
Three more former Gators committed to other programs on Saturday. Linebacker Diwun Black pledged to Temple, offensive lineman Yousef Mugharbil committed to Colorado and wide receiver Trent Whittemore landed at UCF.
In addition to White, five more former Gators in the portal have yet to announce their transfer destinations: outside linebacker David Reese, wide receiver Daejon Reynolds, defensive lineman Chris Thomas Jr., running back Nay’Quan Wright and cornerback Jordan Young.
“The majority of the players that we have who entered the portal, I think, we’ve all been on the same page. It’s not like they’re disgruntled. We’ve just got a lot of guys that are looking for an opportunity where they can contribute and compete,” Florida coach Billy Napier said. “They want to play, and we’ve got a lot of respect for that.”
