The Gators are currently the talk of the college football recruiting world, as four prospects with a four-star ranking committed to Florida today. Each of them are currently taking their official visit as well.

Other than day one of the Early Signing Period, those commitments alone would be enough to say it was a program’s best recruiting day of the year; however, Billy Napier’s program also climbed 10 spots in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and is up to No. 3 in the country.

Priority tight end Amir Jackson kicked everything off this afternoon, having chosen the Gators over Georgia, Alabama, Miami, Auburn and a flurry of others. He is a top-10 prospect at the position and fills a major need for Russ Callaway and company.

We had to wait a handful of hours to learn of the next pledge, but it was certainly worth the wait.

Amaris Williams, a four-star defensive lineman from Clinton (N.C.) High, also announced his commitment to UF today. This is an explosive defender who accumulated 65 tackles, 44 tackles for loss, 18 sacks and a forced fumble as a junior.

Many didn’t expect Williams to pop this weekend, especially on Saturday, but Sean Spencer, Mike Peterson and others are certainly stoked to get him on board.

USC, Oklahoma, Auburn and Tennessee are some other notable offers on the table.

While we were reporting on Williams, the Gators also landed a commitment from Dublin (Ga.) four-star defensive lineman Nasir Johnson.

A member of the On300 rankings, Williams entered the visit with Florida on top and simply found no reason to wait any longer. The Gators have been prioritizing him from the start and sealed the deal while providing Williams’ family with the red-carpet treatment.

Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Kentucky and Missouri are schools that previously offered Johnson as well.

The Gators’ fan base is still gathering their thoughts

As for the fourth commitment tonight, it’s safe to say Florida fans are still in celebration mode.

GO hinted at this possibility earlier in the day, but to officially land Aaron Chiles is a whole different type of feeling. The four-star linebacker also heavily considered Michigan and Maryland, but I’m told the Gators have been knocking it out of the park since the first hour Chiles got to campus.

UF entered the day with one of the premier 2024 linebacker classes; however, landing Chiles to go along with Adarius Hayes and Myles Graham likely puts the Gators at the very top. Fellow On300 linebacker Kris Jones is still on the market as well, so Jay Bateman is on a terror right now.

All in all, what a memorable day for Florida Gators recruiting. It did not start out well due to Austin Simmons’ decision to flip to Ole Miss, but man, it’s safe to say that decision is now in the rear-view mirror.

Background on the On3 Team Rankings, powered by the On3 Industry

The On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking is our best work yet. It is the most advanced, complete and unbiased ranking measurement in the industry, yet its simplicity makes it easy for fans to follow and understand.

+ The On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking utilizes all four major recruiting media companies: On3, 247Sports, Rivals.com and ESPN.

+ The On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking solves the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle. It compiles the highest-rated commits for each team up to a total based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools.

With this model, there are no bonus points for having more commitments than other teams, and only small deductions occur when a team has fewer commitments than the rolling average. Unlike distribution (bell) curves, this model doesn’t disproportionately weight a team’s top three or four highest-rated commits and is a more accurate representation of an entire class.
