GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After the first full month of college football, EA Sports has made the first major update to player ratings in EA College Football 25. Four Florida Gators saw their ratings get a bump, marking the first ratings increase or decrease for the Gators since the game was released on July 19.

Leading the way for the Gators is junior college running back transfer, Ja’Kobi Jackson. Jackson was the lowest-rated running back on the Gators’ roster, coming in at a 64 before the season. On the year, Jackson has 11 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns. His 6.18 yards-per-carry and two rushing touchdowns are second-best on the team through four games.

The next biggest jump was from freshman receiver TJ Abrams. The freshman from Fort Meyers has played in three of Florida’s first four games, mostly on special teams. Abrams has just one reception for three yards through four games.

Florida center Jake Slaughter also got a bump up to 88 from 87. Slaughter currently holds the highest pass-blocking grade (90.3) of any center in the country (according to Pro Football Focus). Slaughter has played in 236 of Florida’s 245 offensive snaps this season. According to PFF, he has yet to allow a hurry, pressure, hit, or sack in 119 passing snaps. Slaughter went from a redshirt and role player in his first two seasons to a fill-in starter for an injured Kingsley Eguakun in 2023 and is now the best offensive lineman on the roster.

Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway also got a one-point boost to 81 from 80.

Lagway has played in all four games for the Gators this season. The true freshman quarterback got the opportunity to start and play a full game against the Samford Bulldogs. In that game he passed for the most yards ever (456) by a Florida true freshman quarterback, breaking Chris Leak’s mark of 269 vs. Kentucky in 2003.

On the season, Lagway leads Florida in passing yards (617). He’s completed 34-of-51 (66.7%) of his pass attempts and has thrown four touchdowns but three interceptions. Lagway has added a deep passing threat to Florida’s offense, which they lacked last season. Lagway has completed 5-of-8 passes that have traveled at least 20 yards in the air and has a 95.0 passing grade on deep passes. He’s also been cool under pressure, completing 10-of-14 pass attempts for 163 yards and a touchdown when blitzed.
