The Gators’ 2024 class is down to 19 commitments.

Kendall Jackson, a 4-star defensive lineman from Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz, just announced he is reopening his recruitment.

The hometown product is a legacy prospect who had been committed to Florida since July. He visited campus nearly two-dozen times and also attended every home game this season, but I’m told this was a mutual parting of ways.

Jackson released the following statement on his social media:

“First, I’d like to thank Coach Napier for the opportunity to play the game I love at the University of Florida. I’d also like to thank Coach Peterson and Coach Armstrong for the opportunity as well. However, after much prayer and many conversations with my family, I have decided it is in my best interest to decommit from The University of Florida. Thank you,” Jackson wrote on Twitter.

According to the On300 rankings, Jackson is the 30th-ranked defensive lineman in the 2024 class. The Gators, however, were courting him to play on the edge.

In addition to UF, Jackson has earned offers from Miami, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Maryland, Kansas and UCF among others.

Other schools that received June official visits were Kentucky, Arkansas and Miami. Both the Gators and Hurricanes attended Jackson’s playoff game on Friday as well.

With today’s news, the Gators moved down one spot in the rankings to fifth. Only Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State and Alabama, respectively, are currently ahead of them.

On the positive side, however, UF did land a commitment today to balance everything out, as former defensive line commit Michai Boireau is now back in the fold.
