The University of Florida no longer has a quarterback committed in the class of 2022.
Nick Evers, who had been teamed up with the Gators since March, has officially reopened his recruitment. Head coach Billy Napier and offensive assistant Ryan O’Hara met with Evers’ family on Tuesday, but now both parties are heading into different directions.
Evers posted the following statement on his Twitter account.
“With the HEAVIEST of heart, after much prayer and discussion with those closest to me, I have decided to decommit from the University of Florida. I’m so thankful to Coach [Dan] Mullen and Coach [Garrick] McGee who gave me the opportunity to attend UF. Additionally, I want to thank Coach [Billy] Napier for allowing me to be a small part of his vision. Mostly, I want to thank Gator Nation – you have welcomed us and my heart will forever belong to this special place! Florida deserves greatness & I wish nothing but blessings to you all! Hoping to find my new path…quickly. My Recruitment is now Open!“
A product of Flower Mound (Texas) High, Evers checks in as a four-star prospect in the On3 Consensus Rankings. He is the eighth-ranked quarterback and 125th-ranked player overall.
If you guys read my interview with Evers’ family from Tuesday evening, there were questions regarding Florida’s plans going forward, especially on the recruiting trail. Wide receiver Chandler Smith reopened his recruitment earlier this evening as well.
The recent coaching changes in Gainesville required a whole lot of adjusting in short a period of time. The entire staff was not retained by Billy Napier, so with initial plans to sign early, Evers decided that a change of scenery was necessary.

Scouting report on Nick Evers
Physically-gifted signal caller with one of the quickest releases in the 2022 cycle. A natural thrower of the football with the ability to dot passes with velocity to all levels of the field. Drives the ball from the far hash to the sideline with ease. Also a good athlete for the position. Has light feet in the pocket. Began to run more as a senior, rushing for double-digit touchdowns as a senior.
Faces tough competition and is not surrounded by a ton of talent on his team. Was plagued by an inordinate amount of drops as a senior. Drug his team into the playoffs as a senior. Just a two-year starter who is still gaining experience in seeing the field. Had a tendency to press at times in an effort to make plays for his team, leading to some mistakes. Upside is among the highest in the cycle if he develops properly at the next level. — On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power
