Chandler Smith, a four-star wide receiver from Mount (Fla.) Dora, has reopened his recruitment, according to his Twitter.

The 2022 prospect committed to the University of Florida over the summer but is now back on the market following tonight’s news. He is the 43rd-ranked wide receiver and 278th-ranked player overall in the On3 Consensus Rankings.

Fresh off an official visit with the Volunteers, Smith was also scheduled to return to Gainesville this weekend; however, that trip was never finalized once Billy Napier took over the program. Billy Gonzales, along with Tennessee’s Kody Burns, conducted in-home visits the week prior, so it’s safe to say the Volunteers are the program to monitor going forward.

Prior to choosing the Gators, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound Smith considered offers from Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia and others. The Gators, Gamecocks, Razorbacks, and most recently the Volunteers, have received official visits.

Smith is returning to full form

A four-star prospect in the On3 Consensus Rankings, Smith is currently rehabbing after undergoing knee surgery. He appeared in a flurry of games to start the season but opted to take a step back in order to fully recover ahead of his arrival in Gainesville. He had been dealing with a partial meniscus tear since his freshman year.

“The surgery was a success. Dr. Farmer was able to fully repair the meniscus,” Smith’s father told me in November. “This will allow CJ full extension of his left leg. I’m most excited to know how fast CJ is after his recovery.”

If all goes as planned, Smith will be participating in track and field on the next level as well.
