Gator for Gator: Former UF standouts Brady Singer, Jonathan India involved in same trade
Two former Florida Gators baseball standouts were involved in the same MLB trade Friday when Cincinnati sent second baseball Jonathan India and one other player to Kansas City for pitcher Brady Singer. Both players were key members of the Gators’ 2017 national championship team.
Wrote Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer:
-“India hit .253 with a .357 on-base percentage for the Reds in 2024 and answers the Royals leadoff question heading into the offseason.”
-“Singer, 28, went 9-13 with a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts (179 2/3 innings) for the Royals last season. The Royals’ 18th overall pick in the 2018 draft is 36-44 with a 4.28 ERA in his career. The right-hander joins a rotation that already includes All-Star Hunter Greene, lefties Nick Lodolo and Andrew Abbott, returning right-hander Nick Martinez and touted prospect Rhett Lowder (1.79 ERA in a six-start debut in 2024).”
India, 27, has a career .253 average with 63 homers and 229 RBI in four MLB seasons. He played for the Gators from 2016-18 and in his final season was the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and also a Baseball America All-American.

In 2018, the Reds took him with the No. 5 overall pick in the draft. Per MLB.com, India was “the 2021 National League Rookie of the Year Award winner. In 151 games last season, he batted .248 with a .750 OPS, 15 home runs and 58 RBIs.”
The Royals selected Singer with the 18th overall pick in the same draft. Earlier in the year, he finished his final season with the Gators by going 12–3 with 2.55 ERA. He won the Dick Howser Trophy, which goes to the national college baseball player of the year.
