The Florida Gators landed a top basketball transfer from Washington State the last offseason and now hope to do it again. Per On3’s Joe Tipton, UF is a finalist for coveted Washington State guard Cedric Coward.

“Coward has cut his options in the transfer portal to five programs. On that list for him are blue-blood and new-blood teams with the Alabama Crimson TideDuke Blue DevilsFlorida GatorsKansas Jayhawks, and Washington Huskies. That’s with him also still having the other option of the pros as he’s testing for the 2025 NBA Draft as well,” according to Tipton.

Coward, listed at 6-foot-6, appeared in only six games last season due to an injury, yet still is regarded as one of the top players in the NCAA Transfer Portal. He averaged 17.7 points, 7 rebounds and 3.7 assists during the 2024-25 season while shooting 55.7 percent from the field. He previously played at Eastern Washington and D-III Willamette. We believe he has one season of eligibility remaining.

Last offseason, Florida signed Cougars transfer post player Rueben Chinyelu, and he went on to play a major role as a starter for the Gators’ national championship team.

It is unclear at this time if Coward will stay in the draft. Also unknown: Which school or schools will he visit. In 73 college games, he’s averaging 12 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists a game. He has made 59 percent of his field goals and 38.6 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Coward is the No. 7 shooting guard and No. 17 overall player in the On3 transfer portal rankings, which you can find HERE.
