Gators co-DC Patrick Toney evaluating 2022 defensive back Joseph Swen
When dissecting the film of Joseph Swen, you would think the 6-foot-2, 187-pound defensive back possesses double-digit offers.
As a cornerback, the California native shows no problem being thrown out on an island. He consistently makes himself available by high-pointing the ball as well. You also have to take notice of his size for the position, although playing safety is a strong possibility as well.
However, Swen says he is heading into the New Year with just a single official scholarship offer on the tabe, and that is from Nevada. He was verbally offered by FSU, Arizona State, Colorado State and San Diego State, but communication with those schools has somewhat dropped off.
As expected, the 92nd-ranked safety in the On3 Consensus Rankings is now operating with a major chip on his shoulder.
“I would say I’m a little surprised,” Swen told Gators Online. “Whoever passed up on me, (I’m going to prove them wrong).”
The Gators are showing increased interest in Swen
Despite coming across some speed bumps on the recruiting trail, Swen says there is an SEC school turning up the heat.
That program is the University of Florida.
It was director of player personnel Jacob LaFrance that first made contact roughly two weeks ago; however, Swen says most of his communication is now going through Patrick Toney, UF’s co-defensive coordinator.

ND coach addresses NFL rumors
“He said that he loved my film, and I was going to send over some information so we can see about coming down. Just more film and transcripts,” Swen said.
“We’ve built a good connection. He said he loved my film, so we’ve just been talking ever since then, like, every couple of days.
“I also spoke to Jacob LeFrance. He hit me up the same day (Dec. 19) that coach Toney hit me up. He just said, ‘What’s up, bro?’ and asked how everything is going.”
During the 2021 season, Swen racked up 39 tackles (27 solo), 11 pass deflections and one interception.
No visits are scheduled at this time.
“I for sure want to come out there,” Swen said. “Florida, that is one of my top schools since I was younger.
