Touted Florida Gators basketball commit CJ Ingram has left Hawthorne (Fla.) to play his final season of high school at Montverde Academy (Fla.). MVA, which is just west of Orlando, announced his transfer via X, the app formerly known as Twitter, on Monday.

The post read, “Excited to welcome CJ Ingram to MVA. CJ is committed to @GatorsMBK and he is a highly-skilled wing with major athleticism and the potential to become one of the elite prospects in the class of 2025.”

MVA is one of the country’s elite basketball programs. On its official page on X, the school claims multiple national titles. Countless MVA players have ended up at major college programs.

Ingram is the son of former Florida tight end/basketball player Cornelius Ingram and a native of Hawthorne. He’s a 4-star prospect, the No. 7 shooting guard and No. 26 overall recruit in the country for On3. Ingram’s national profile — and ranking — soared during the offseason when he shined at the AAU level.

He committed to the Gators over Kansas, Michigan, Georgia and Oklahoma on Aug. 12.

Before Ingram’s stock rose, Taurean Green, a Florida assistant and national championship point guard (twice) for the Gators, told Ingram to be patient. The offers and attention, Green said, eventually would come. They did — and Ingram didn’t forget Green’s words of wisdom.

“They’ve got Taurean Green (at Florida) and that’s the main reason I committed,” Ingram said. “It was the relationship me and him had. When I wasn’t even being heavily recruited, that’s who I always talked to. Even when I was playing football and did not know what decision I wanted to make, he was always dialed in with me. He was on the national championship teams. And when my dad was at Florida, he played basketball for a little bit. Him and my dad played together. They have a great relationship. So we jelled pretty quickly.”

Ingram had considered transferring for his final high school season for awhile. After leading the Hawthorne football team the past few years as a quarterback, he’s focusing solely on basketball now.
