Gators DB Dijon Johnson facing multiple charges after arrest in Tampa

Florida Gators defensive back Dijon Johnson, projected to be a possible starter in 2025, is facing multiple charges after being arrested in Tampa, Fla., on May 2.

The charges include the following, per the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office website: Second-degree felony for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, third-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence, misdemeanor possession of cannabis less than 20 grams.

Johnson was arrested at 11:20 p.m. May 2 and booked two hours later. He was released from jail May 4. His occupation listed on the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrest report is “FOOTBALL PLAYER/ STUDENT.”

The University of Florida released the following statement: “We are aware of the situation of Dijon Johnson. We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative processes.”

Johnson, a junior from Tampa,  played in all 13 games at cornerback last year with five starts. He recorded 25 total tackles (16 solo), one QB hurry and two pass break-ups.

Johnson returned from offseason shoulder surgery during spring camp but was limited. He’ll need to compete for one starting cornerback job this fall with Cormani McClain.

  • vs. No. 19 Miami: Racked up two total tackles (one solo) on 14 defensive snaps.
  • vs Samford: Saw action at DB with two tackles and a pass break-up. 
  • vs. Texas A&M: Saw action at DB and recorded three tackles (two solo).
  • at Mississippi State: Recorded one total tackle at defensive back. 
  • vs UCF: Recorded one tackle in win. 
  • at No. 8 Tennessee: Saw action at DB. 
  • vs Kentucky: Tallied one solo tackle at DB. 
  • vs No. 2 Georgia: Made his first career start and recorded three tackles 9 (two solo). 
  • at No. 5 Texas: Saw action at cornerback and recorded one tackle. 
  • vs No. 21 LSU:  Started at corner and recorded a career high six solo tackles to go along with one TFL. 
  • vs No. 9 Ole Miss: Made his second consecutive start at corner where we recorded three tackles (two solo) a pass break-up and a QB hurry in the win. 
  • at Florida State: Started at cornerback and recorded two tackles (one solo) in the road win. 
  • Gasparilla Bowl vs. Tulane: Started at corner tallying two tackles (two solo) and a TFL in the win.
