GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators fell to the LSU Tigers 45-35 to fall to 4-3 (1-3 SEC) on the season. This marks Florida’s first four-game losing streak to LSU since 1977-80.

“Ultimately we didn’t do enough to win the game tonight, and when you’re in a leadership position, there’s only one answer: You’ve got to do better for the people that you’re leading,” Billy Napier said after the game. “Players, staff, all the people that care and represent this University, right, you’ve got to do a better job. There’s lots of things that we can do better. Nothing fun about losing.”

Florida’s defense struggled to get off the field and or even slow down the Tigers’ offense. Quarterback Jayden Daniels scored a single-game career-high six touchdowns (three passing, three rushing). He also threw for 349 yards — the second-highest single-game total of his career. LSU racked up more than 500 total yards and converted on 8-of-12 third downs and went 2/2 on fourth down.

The Gators and Tigers went toe-to-toe to start the game. Florida came out hot, scoring on a 51-yard connection between Anthony Richardson and Justin Shorter. LSU punched right back with a 12-play 75-yard scoring drive of its own.

The two teams traded touchdowns until the Tigers were able to reel off 28 unanswered points to change the score from a 21-14 Florida lead to a 42-21 LSU. The Gators fought but, ultimately, ran out of time to climb out of the hole the defense dug for itself.

Florida heads into a bye week and will be back on the field on October 29 for its annual rivalry game against No. 1 and defending national champion Georgia (7-0, 4-0). The Bulldogs beat up Vanderbilt 55-0 at home Saturday and will take a three-game winning streak against the Gators into the 100th all-time meeting.
