For the third time this season, the Gators football team will be facing a former a Florida linebacker on the opposing sidelines. After meeting Utah’s Mohamoud Diabate in the opener and Missouri transfer Ty’Ron Hopper during SEC play, UF crosses paths Saturday with Andrew Chatfield Jr. of Oregon State.
Chatfield spent four years at Florida and appeared in 24 games, totaling 19 tackles (14 solo), 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble. He played in last season’s opener against Florida Atlantic and remained on the roster through the Alabama game before leaving the program.
Four days after that matchup, Chatfield announced he was transferring to Oregon State. In his first season at Beavers, Chatfield recorded 18 tackles and 1.5 for loss in 11 games. He ranks second on the team with five quarterback hurries.
UF defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. told FloridaGators.com’s Scott Carter that said he and Chatfield traded texts when the Las Vegas Bowl matchup was announced and that he looked forward to catching up with his former teammate.
