GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators will get its best offensive player back this week in the form of O’Cyrus Torrence. The senior started the first six games of the season but missed the LSU game with a knee injury.

His replacement, Richie Leonard, played well. Pro Football Focus graded Leonard a 52.6 and the 14th-best offensive player on UF in the game. Still, Torrence has been playing at an All-American level. It’s not slight to Leonard that fans are excited about getting Torrence back in the fold.

“O’Cyrus is coming back, he’s a great player, but I feel like Richie is able to come in as well. It’s great to have him coming back,” right tackle Austin Barber said. “He’s been in this offense for four years. He knows the ins and outs of it. He’s just the guy that is kind of the leader on our o-line. He might not be as vocal but when he’s doing something right people follow.”

Torrence named a Midseason All-American

The AP All-American list is one of five publications in which a Gator could earn an All-American brick outside of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Torrence has started six games this season and is the highest-graded guard in the nation according to PFF. The Greensburg, Louisiana native also earned AP Preseason All-American status prior to this season.

“I like playing next to Cybo. I mean, he’s a stud,” Gators starting center Kingsley Eguakun said of Torrence .”You hear all the good stuff: he’s strong, big, all the good things and intangibles you want from a guard. And he’s smart. I just like playing next to Cybo.”

The Associated Press is one of five publications that would earn Torrence a brick outside the stadium. Not bad for a kid from a small town in Louisiana who never dreamed of playing at a school like the University of Florida.

Torrence was First Team All-Sun Belt in 2021. The Greensburg, Louisiana native didn’t have many offers outside of Louisiana. He was a three-year starter for Billy Napier at UL and didn’t allow a sack. He transferred to Florida for his final season and the jump in competition hasn’t affected him at all. Torrence still has yet to give up a sack in 338 snaps this season.
