Gators LB Ventrell Miller tabbed as semifinalist for Comeback Player of the Year Award
Veteran Gators linebacker Ventrell Miller has been named a semifinalist for the Comeback Player of the Year Award. The College Sports Communicators in association with The Associated Press and Fiesta Bowl Organization announced the news on Thursday morning.
Miller, a native of Lakeland, Florida, is one of two SEC players under consideration for the award, as Vanderbilt running back Ray Davis is a semifinalist as well. Fifteen players overall made the list.
During his sixth and final season with at Florida, Miller made 10 starts at inside linebacker and appeared in 11 games overall. His 75 tackles rank third best on the team, while a pair of forced fumbles are in the stat sheet as well. He only played in two games a season ago due to injury.
The award recognizes college football student-athletes from all divisions of college football for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances. In a vote by a panel of AP writers, editors, sports information directors, and Fiesta Bowl Organization representatives, three college football student-athletes will be honored as 2022 Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the VRBO Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona.

As a member of the 2017 class, Miller was a three-star prospect and the No. 58-ranked linebacker. That is according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
However, it’s safe to say the Lakeland Kathleen graduate outplayed his ranking ahead of a hopeful career in the NFL. It’s unlikely he plays in the Gators’ bowl game.
