GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida men’s basketball have officially the hiring of assistant coach John Andrzejek, head coach Todd Golden announced on Thursday. The move was reported earlier this month.

“We are elated to have John join our staff here in Gainesville,” Golden said. “He is an extremely bright and motivated coach who will work tirelessly to help us grow our program. He has great experience recruiting internationally, game planning and scouting opponents, and executing analytical processes that will make our program more efficient.”

Andrzejek comes to Florida following four seasons at Washington State, where he helped the Cougars to a 69-61 record and a pair of postseason berths, along with a winning Pac-12 record in each of the past two seasons.

Andrzejek was instrumental in recruiting a number of notable WSU players, including Mouhamed Gueye, Pac-12 All-Freshman Efe Abogidi, second-team All-Pac-12 honoree Michael Flowers and four-year starter DJ Rodman, son of NBA star Dennis Rodman.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to get to represent one of the most storied programs in college basketball history,” Andrzejek said. “I can’t wait to get to work and do my part to help this program make deep NCAA Tournament runs.

“I’ve worked with Coach Golden and many others on staff in the past and I believe the work they have put in has the program primed for a very successful year.”

Andrzejek becomes the fifth member of Florida’s staff who spent time under Kyle Smith, including Golden. Andrzejek and Golden have worked together twice before, first at Columbia (2012-14) and then San Francisco (2016-17).

Both served as Smith’s director of basketball operations at Columbia, with Golden getting elevated to an assistant coach after 2012-13 and Andrzejek being promoted from team manager to DBO in July of 2014. During his second season in that role, Columbia won the most games (25) in program history and a CIT championship.

Prior to coming to WSU, Andrzejek spent one year as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Dartmouth in 2018-19 and coached at Johns Hopkins in 2017-18 following a season as director of basketball operations at University of San Francisco in 2016-17.

At Columbia, the Hamilton, N.Y., native worked alongside Golden and several other current Florida staffers, including Carlin Hartman, Kevin Hovde and Jonathan Safir.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Andrzejek has spent time as an assistant coach for USA East Coast All-Stars teams that played throughout Finland, Estonia, France, and Italy in 2014 and 2015.
