Gators Online Show: Assessing UF's class, Austin Barber interview
Welcome to the Gators Online Show! For episode 37, co-hosts Zach Abolverdi and Nick de la Torre assess Florida’s 2023 signing class, interview offensive lineman Austin Barber and discuss UF hoops and baseball.
Gators coach Billy Napier and his staff finished with 20 high school signees and the nation’s No. 11 class in his first full recruiting cycle, signing four-star offensive tackle Caden Jones on Wednesday.
Napier also discussed the nine new players who transferred in along with former Louisville defensive lineman Caleb Banks, a December signee. All 10 transfers for the Gators are enrolled for the spring.
In addition to Banks, UF landed quarterback Graham Mertz, running back Cameron Carroll, offensive linemen Micah Mazzccua, Damieon George and Kiyaunta Goodwin, defensive lineman Cam’Ron Jackson and linebackers Teradja Mitchell, Mannie Nunnery and Deuce Spurlock.
Abolverdi and de la Torre break down the results of Napier’s first full recruiting cycle, the biggest needs that he and his staff addressed in the 2023 class and where the Gators could add more transfers during the next portal window.
Gators Online then sits down for an interview with Barber to discuss his first year as a starter, how he has improved under position coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton, the changes along Florida’s offensive line and what to expect from the offense in 2023.
The guys wrap up the show recapping Florida’s win over No. 2 Tennessee and the significance of the upset before switching gears to the start of preseason camp for the Gators baseball team, which will open the 2023 schedule on Feb. 17 against Charleston Southern.
