Gators Online Show: Graham Mertz returns, transfer portal updates
Welcome to the Gators Online Show! For episode 73, co-hosts Zach Abolverdi and Nick de la Torre cover starting quarterback Graham Mertz, the transfer portal and Florida’s 2023 season.
We open the show with the breaking news from Mertz, who announced Thursday that he’s returning for his redshirt senior year. He had a breakout season with the Gators in 2023, throwing for a career-high 2,903 yards and 20 touchdowns while leading the SEC in completion percentage (72.9%) and fewest interceptions (3).

We also discuss junior defensive tackle Cam Jackson returning to UF and the latest transfer news. As of Thursday, nine total players from the 2023 roster have announced or will reportedly be transferring from Florida when the portal opens on Monday.
Former UF tight end and current sideline analyst Tate Casey joins the show to review the 2023 season, the state of the program, both sides of the ball and what it will take for the Gators to turn things around after three straight losing seasons.
We wrap up the show by recapping the staff changes made by Florida coach Billy Napier this week. He parted ways with defensive line coach Sean Spencer and secondary coach Corey Raymond. Could more shakeups be coming?
