Gators Online Show: Several players stepping into leadership roles
Welcome to the Gators Online Show! For episode 39, co-hosts Zach Abolverdi and Nick de la Torre discuss some new leaders on the Florida football team, how UF hoops moves forward without Colin Castleton and opening weekend for the 2023 baseball season with Jeff Cardozo.
The show starts with a deep dive into the recent Gators Online intel piece with buzz and nuggets from the first few weeks of the offseason, as well as how the workouts have been going.
Abolverdi and de la Torre share their thoughts on the loss of so many veterans from the 2022 roster and which players have been stepping into bigger leadership roles this offseason.
One of them is linebacker Derek Wingo, who has been named as the GatorMade Danny Wuerffel Man of the Month for January 2023. The guys react to that recognition and detail Wingo’s importance to the team.
Abolverdi and de la Torre then preview the Florida baseball team with UF broadcaster and former pitcher Jeff Cardozo. The Gators open their 2023 season on Friday with a three-game series against Charleston Southern.
The guys wrap up the show recapping Florida’s 79-64 win over Ole Miss and examining how the Gators will handle the loss of Castleton after he suffered a broken hand.
