Welcome to the Gators Online Show! For episode 81, co-hosts Zach Abolverdi and Nick de la Torre react to the Tyler Miles news, the latest results for Florida men’s hoops and the first week of the 2024 UF baseball season.

We open the show with this week’s news on Miles, who is being promoted to director of football performance. He had been serving as the interim strength coach since Craig Fitzgerald left for Boston College on Feb. 11.

A former strength coach at Duke and Miami, Miles was hired by UF in June as the director of player athletic development. He replaced Joe Danos, now the Denver Broncos’ director of sports science.

Fitzgerald and Miles previously worked together at Tennessee in 2018. Fitzgerald was in his first year as the Vols’ director of football sports performance and Miles was a strength and conditioning intern.

We break down Miles’ background, his history with Fitzgerald, how that familiarity helped him land the promotion and the players’ relationship with Miles since he’s been on the strength staff at Florida.

“I’ve been a lot of places. I’ve worked at the pro level and the university level. I worked for the University of Tennessee, the University of the South Carolina, I’ve also been with the New York Jets,” Miles said in 2020. “I really like power lifting and Olympic lifting because of the explosiveness with the Olympic lifting and the strength of power lifting.”

We also react to Fitzgerald taking a pair of UF assistant strength coaches with him to Boston College in Tevin Geddis and Karmichael Dunbar II, who spent the five seasons with Billy Napier at Florida and Louisiana.

We then shift gears to discuss men’s hoops following a 98-93 overtime loss at No. 13 Alabama on Wednesday night, including my takeaways from the game and how the result impacts the Gators in the NET rankings.
