Billy Napier: Gators QB DJ Lagway has 'pretty significant' injury
Florida Gators freshman quarterback DJ Lagway was injured in the second quarter of the Florida-Georgia game on Saturday and was taken off the field in cart.
With 5:01 left in the first half and Florida leading 10-3, Lagway grabbed his hamstring after a running play to the left in which he gained 3 yards. It was not immediately known what the severity of the injury was.
“He’s got a hamstring (injury),” Gators coach Billy Napier said in his halftime interview with ABC. “Pretty significant one. But he’s a tough kid. … I can promise you one thing. This team will rally behind him.”
Lagway, making his third career start, was 2 of 6 for 47 yards passing and one touchdown when injured. Additionally, he had rushed for 18 yards on four carries while leading the Gators, a 14.5-point underdog, to a surprising early lead.
Lagway entered the game 54 of 86 for 1,024 yards, 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on the season. He was a 5-star recruit in the 2024 Florida signing class out of Willis, Texas.

Lagway’s touchdown pass Saturday vs. Georgia was a big one. One play after an interception by Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, Lagway — on play-action — hit receiver Aidan Mizell for a 43-yard score to put the Gators ahead 7-3 in the second quarter.
With Graham Mertz, who began the season as Florida’s starting quarterback, already out for the year with a knee injury, the Gators turned to redshirt freshman walk-on Aidan Warner when Lagway went down.
Warner, from Winter Park, Fla., transferred to Florida from Yale. He entered Saturday’s game 2-of-3-passing for 30 yards on the season.
