Gators rise in Top 25 after a 4-1 week on the diamond
Coming off of a big road win over Miami, the Florida Gators rose up the top-25 to No. 11 in the country.
Florida moved up three spots Monday from No. 14 in the country. The Gators hit the road last Tuesday and beat North Florida before returning home and posting a season-high 17 runs in a win over FAMU on Wednesday. That set up the Gators’ huge rivalry weekend with Miami.
Florida traveled down to Coral Gables to face the then-ranked No. 22 Hurricanes. The Gators dropped the series opener in a mistake-filled game, but used a gem of a pitching performance from Brandon Sproat to even the series Saturday. Sunday’s rubber match was a convincing 11-3 win, continuing Florida’s dominance over Miami. The Gators have won 8 of the last 11 games and seven of the last eight series. UF’s series win also pushed Miami out of the top-25.
The SEC has eight teams ranked in the top-25.
Gators RPI
Florida’s current RPI is No. 3 in the country according to Warren Nolan. RPI is a quantity used to rank sports teams. It accounts a team’s record as well as its strength of schedule. It’s also considered when ranking teams in the Top 25.
The Gators’ opening season series against Liberty should look better as the year goes on. Liberty has reeled off 10-straight wins since an opening night loss to UF. The Flames have gone from unranked in the preseason all the way to No. 14.

It will be the only two times the teams face off this season. Seton Hall travels down from New Jersey for a three-game weekend series as well.
This is the last week of two midweek games. Next week the Gators will begin their Sunshine Showdown series, hosting No. 8 Florida State on March 15. SEC play begins that weekend, March 18-20, in Tuscaloosa against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
