Gators safety Jordan Castell named to On3 Midseason True Freshman All-American Team
On3 has dished out its Midseason True Freshman All-American Team, and as expected, Gators safety Jordan Castell made the list.
Castell, a former Under Armour All-American from Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange, has started all six of UF’s games this season. He checks in with 28 tackles, including 14 solo stops, and one pass deflection.
His best performance came in the Gators’ 29-16 victory over Tennessee, which was ranked 11th at the time. Castell finished that contest with 10 tackles and a pass deflection.
Castell was targeted four times and gave up just one reception for 16 yards. He recorded the highest pass-coverage grade of any Florida defender and was tied with two others with 66 total snaps. All in all, he graded out as the top Gators defender with a rating of 82.7.
Shortly thereafter, Castell earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors along with the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week Award.

Why Castell earned a spot on the All-American list
“Jordan Castell is part of a very promising true freshman class at Florida and is one who has found his way onto the field very early,” said Charles Power, On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings.
“Castell is a physically developed defensive back, a guy who has the size of some linebackers but has the fluidity and athleticism and cover skills to play safety at a high level. He has played 270 snaps for the Gators already, registering 23 tackles. He’s shown to be a solid tackler and good in coverage with two pass breakups and I think is a guy who is just a fluid, reliable player in the secondary for the Gators and one who has a high floor but also has a physical ceiling just as a big, jumbo safety.
“I think basically what we’ve seen from Castell early on has really encouraged, and he’s one of several Florida true freshmen that we could find on the postseason true freshman All-American team as they continue to see their roles expand for the Gators.”
