Gators will be represented in Super Bowl for 21st year in a row

Super Bowl LVII is set and for the 21st year in a row, the Gators are represented in the championship game.

The matchup on Feb. 12 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will feature four active former Florida players and seven total Gators, including a player who just joined one of the teams over the weekend.

The Chiefs — including Carlos DunlapKadarius Toney and Tommy Townsend — won their third AFC title in the last four years with a 23-20 win over Zach CarterEvan McPherson and the Cincinatti Bengals.

Kansas City also signed UF running back La’Mical Perine to its practice squad on Saturday. Perine was a member of Philadelphia’s team this season as well as the Miami Dolphins.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and the Eagles defeated San Francisco 31-7 to claim their first NFC title since 2017, when they won Super Bowl LII. Philadelphia’s practice squad also features Fred Johnson and Tyrie Cleveland, who was signed by the team on Jan. 17.

The Gators have had a player in each Super Bowl since 2003, the third longest active streak in the nation. Overall, Florida has been a part of 24 Super Bowl-winning teams (36 total rings won by 29 players), and at least one UF player has won a ring in nine of the last 11 seasons.
