Georgia opens up a massive favorite over Gators
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The men and women that set betting odds don’t build palaces out in the desert for being wrong. This week, they’re huge fans of the Georgia Bulldogs over the Florida Gators.
The Vegas Insider Consensus, which generates an aggregate point spread based on those put out by numerous other sports books, has Georgia favored by 22.5 points over Florida this weekend.
The Bulldogs have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams. Florida’s last win came in 2020 when the Gators punched a ticket to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.
While this will be Florida’s seventh game of the season it will be just the second they have played away from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Florida comes into the game 4-3 (1-3 SEC) while Georgia is 7-0 (4-0 SEC). The Bulldogs have a huge game against Tennessee (7-0, 3-0 SEC) the week following the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. That game could decide the SEC East Champion unless Florida can play the role of spoiler this Saturday.
This will also be the first time either school will, or can, host recruits at the neutral site. Georgia, who is the home team in 2022, will be providing tickets for any prospects who want to attend.

Gators and Bulldogs meet for the 100th (or 101st time)
This will be the 100th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Gators. Well, 101st if you go by Georgia’s record keeping. Georgia counts a 52–0 victory in 1904 against a school known as the Univerity of Florida as the first meeting between the two universities. However, this was not the University of Florida as it’s known today. Rather it was one of its four predecessor schools, known as Florida Agricultural College in Lake City.
Florida does not recognize this game as it came before the Buckman Act of 1905 and before Florida acknowledges its first football team in 1906. Per UF, the first meeting between the schools was in 1915 and it was tough sledding for the Gators early on. Florida lost six games to open the series and were shut out in five of the first six contests. However, Florida has dominated the series since 1990. The Gators have a 22-10 record over Georgia since Steve Spurrier took over the program.
Florida and Georgia will kick off at 3:30 pm from TIAA Bank Stadium In Jacksonville. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
