GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In addition to center Micah Handlogten, Florida coach Todd Golden provided injury updates Friday on multiple players. The news of Handlogten’s return was even more significant with the health of UF’s frontcourt, or lack thereof.
Golden announced starter Alex Condon and backup forward Sam Alexis will both be out against South Carolina. Condon suffered a low right ankle sprain 30 seconds into the Mississippi State game Tuesday, and Alexis also has an ankle injury.
Florida starting guard Alijah Martin (hip) was listed as probable on the availability report Tuesday night.
“We’re banged up. Condo won’t play tomorrow night, Sam won’t play tomorrow night,” Golden said Friday. “So even with Micah’s return, we have three guys that have been rotational players who are eligible in our frontcourt.
“We’ll still have to figure some things out for tomorrow night, but obviously Micah’s addition helps us out a lot. Obviously, Rueben [Chinyelu], Tommy [Haugh] and Micah will play the majority of minutes in the frontcourt.”
Haugh will start in place of Condon, Golden said, and Handlogten will come off the bench for Chinyelu. Handlogten said Condon will “be back in a week or two” and Golden confirmed that timeline.
“Yeah, I think that’s a pretty fair timeline. We dodged a bullet with it only being only a low-ankle sprain; no structural damage, no bone damage,” Golden said. “He has not sprained his ankle much in his life, so it’s a little more swollen and sore than your general ankle sprain.

“But already putting more pressure on it and walking around a little bit better. Haven’t seen him today, but I think that one- to two-week timeline is pretty accurate right now.”

Alijah Martin update
Golden also shared the latest on UF starting guard Alijah Martin. He missed the last two games with a hip pointer and was listed as questionable both times before being ruled out.
Martin is second on the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. He suffered his hip pointer against Vanderbilt but returned to the game and played through the injury.
“He said he’s feeling better this morning,” Golden said of Martin’s status on Friday. “But this deal has been a little tricky with his abdomen, the tightness and kind of a weird inability to treat it in terms of, like, there’s only so much rehab you can do on your ab, you know?
“So, we’ll see how practice looks today. We kind of felt like he was getting close to playing and he wasn’t able to, so I don’t wanna say that today and him not play tomorrow. So I’m gonna say I don’t know, and hopefully he does. But he’s definitely getting closer. He’s getting closer.”
