Jason Marshall named the GatorMade Wuerffel Man of the Month
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators junior cornerback Jason Marshall was named the latest GatorMade Danny Wuerffel Man of the Month.
The new tradition at Florida honors is given monthly to “a football scholar-athlete that exemplifies the Gator Standard, demonstrating holistic excellence in leadership, character, service, and academics.” The distinction is not an on-field achievement, but rather one about the character of the player.” The Award was initiated by Billy Napier and Savannah Bailey, who leads the GatorMade Program.
Marshall is heading into his third season with the Gators. On the field, he is being asked to step into a more vocal leadership role.
“Being more vocal. I’m going to be one of the veteran guys, so just being more vocal to not only the young guys but some of the other veteran guys,” Marshall said this spring. “You know, they may be in the wrong spot in practice, and just learning the whole entire defense and being able to execute at a high level.”
Marshall has led by example on the field in the past. He started at cornerback in all thirteen games for the Gators in 2022. Marshall finished the season with 29 tackles, 8 pass breakups, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 interception, and a quarterback hurry. Marshall also made an impact as a freshman. He appeared in all 13 games, starting at defensive back in six games in 2021. Marshall grabbed his first interception in a 24-21 win over FSU as a freshman. He finished the season with 23 tackles, 3 pass breakups, and 2 tackles for a loss. He’s expected to once again assume a starting role for the Gators in 2023.

Just this week, Jack linebacker Antwaun Powell-Ryland gave Marshall props for how he and several other young players are stepping into leadership roles.
“He’s always been a leader since day one. You know, Jason Marshall,” Powell-Ryland said. “Shemar [James] for sure. I want to say Chris McClellan, like, he’s turning it up. Because you know, with Gervon leaving it’s gonna be his show, most likely.”
Past Wuerffel Man of the Month Honorees
The Wuerffel Man of the Month tradition was introduced in April. Outside linebacker Chief Borders earned the first recognition. Long snapper Marco Ortiz earned the second honor and offensive tackle Michael Tarquin was recognized in May. Nay’Quan Wright was the most recent recipient. Linebacker Ventrell Miller and punter Jeremy Crawshaw are also past recipients of the honor.
