Why Not Florida? The No. 6 running back in the 2023 class, Jacksonville prospect Treyaun Webb, is now a Florida Gator.

After a long-awaited decision, the Gators finally added the 5-foot-11, 188-pound back to their class, after leading for his services throughout the spring. Despite planning to commit on July 11, Webb moved up his decision to go public to Florida, following four-star quarterback Marcus Stokes’ flip from Penn State. Both play in Jacksonville.

The Trinity Christian Academy athlete announced his commitment in a Twitter post today.

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Webb is the No. 6 running back and No. 166 player overall. Webb comes in as the No. 34 player in Florida.

Florida beat out Baylor, Tennessee, South Carolina and Penn State for the Jacksonville native’s commitment. At one point, Webb was a Georgia Bulldog, then an Oklahoma Sooner.

Once Lincoln Riley headed West, Webb wanted to evaluate all of his options and began to take visits throughout the spring.

Now, Webb is pledged to the flagship program in Florida, with Early Signing Day five months away.

Treyaun is cousins with former UF defensive back Dee Webb, who played at Florida from 2003 to 2005. On his visit to Florida, Dee accompanied Treyaun and showed him around Gainesville.

Webb talks Florida, why he chose the Gators

After his visit to Gainesville in March, Webb knew the vibe around Florida had changed for the better.

“I’ve always loved Florida because it’s close to home, the hometown feeling, my cousin played there, everything just seemed right. Now that they are recruiting me, it’s kind of a perfect fit, and everything lines up. There are no excuses now.”

The new staff re-offered Webb on February 22 and immediately put on the full-court press.

“They came on strong in my recruitment late. They’re building that championship culture back. From what I’ve seen from their practices, they could be a national title contender this year,” Webb told Gators Online earlier this year.

After his official visit, he broke down why Florida stood out to him and his family.

“It’s the little stuff. We had a little first night at Spurrier’s and they introduced the recruits to talk, and I was the first one. My table were the first ones to eat every single day; just little stuff like that.”

“All of ‘em,” Webb said when asked which coaches he spent the most time around. “Everyone was bouncing around. Coach [Billy] Napier was very involved this weekend. I’m thankful that he treats me and my family like a priority since it was a bunch of us.”

The Florida staff has been after Webb hard

After his visit in early April, Webb tweeted “Why Not Florida,” followed by a barrage of staff members and fans following suit. Members of the coaching staff fired off variations of Webb’s tweet, making Webb feel like a priority, which led Webb to commit to Florida.

Webb decided on Florida after taking his official visits

After official visits to Penn State and South Carolina, Webb elected to stay in Florida after officially visiting the Gators in early June.

“I chose Florida because of the education and the opportunities after football,” Webb told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “I have felt a connection with the staff from the beginning and they truly care.”

Florida continues to be on the hunt for another back in 2023 class, chasing Cedric Baxter Jr. and others as the summer rolls on.
