The unranked and outmanned Florida Gators were no match for the No. 5 Texas Longhorns at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, on Saturday.

Starting quarterback DJ Lagway, injured a week earlier, didn’t play Saturday. Meanwhile, Texas had its way with what many have called an improved Gators defense. Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns.

By the half, it wasn’t close. By the end, it was an ugly defeat.

Final score: Texas 49, Florida 17.

Texas improved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the SEC. The Longhorns came into the game with the No. 1 defense nationally in yards allowed. They gave up a season-high 329 to the Gators, but much of that came after Florida had fallen way behind.

Florida now is 4-5, 2-4. The Gators have dropped two straight, both to top-five teams.
