SAN FRANCISCO — The No. 1 seed Florida Gators marched on Thursday with their 87-71 win over Maryland in the Sweet 16 at the Chase Center. Leading by just two at the break, UF outscored the Terrapins by 14 points in the second half.

FINAL: Florida 87, Maryland 71

The Gators advance to the Elite Eight for the 10th time in program history. Six UF players scored in double figures, led by Will Richard with 15 points.

Alijah Martin finished with 14, Walter Clayton Jr. and Thomas Haugh had 13 apiece, Denzel Aberdeen added 12 and Reuben Chinyelu scored 10.

The Gators are rolling in San Francisco. They took control of this game with a 13-2 run and have played strong down the stretch.

SCORE UPDATE: Florida 72, Maryland 56 (7:24 2H)

The Gators have their biggest lead of the game after a 6-0 run. The Terrapins haven’t scored in 2:27, missing their last four shots.

SCORE UPDATE: Florida 63, Maryland 54 (10:24 2H)

The Gators pushed their lead to double digits with a great effort play by Alex Condon, who passed the ball to Micah Handlogten from the floor. Huge for UF to get Condon back in the game.

The Terps haven’t scored in 2:29 and the Gators have pushed their lead to eight points after back-to-back dunks by Rueben Chinyelu.

HALF: Florida 40, Maryland 38

Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard lead the Gators with 12 points apiece. UF is outrebounding the Terps 21-10 but committed 13 first-half turnovers.

Alex Condon is questionable to return, per UF. He has a right ankle injury, the same one he previously sprained.

Will Richard has the Gators’ last seven points. The Terrapins took the lead with an 11-3 run but haven’t made a field goal in 3:23, missing five straight shots and six of their last seven.

The Gators are owning the glass right now (13-5) but already have eight turnovers. The Terps up to 53% shooting and 50% from 3 (2-4). UF at 45% and 40%.

The Gators are on a 9-0 run and the Terps haven’t scored in 3:49, but starting forward Alex Condon is in the locker room after rolling his ankle.

SCORE UPDATE: Florida 7, Maryland 6 (15:51 1H)

Good for the Gators get Walter Clayton Jr. and Alex Condon going early. They have a 3-0 edge on the offensive glass so far but three turnovers already.
