Florida Gators take their first SEC road series with 11-8 win at MSU

After a 14-4 run-rule Friday, the Florida Gators won their first SEC road series on Saturday night with an 11-8 victory at Mississippi State. UF took three separate leads and pull ahead for good the last time.
Trailing 6-3 through six, the Gators score six runs in the seventh, including a pair of 2 RBI doubles by Brendan Lawson and Blake Cyr, who also drove in another run and made the play of the game on defense.
After the Bulldogs hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 9-8, Cyr threw out MSU’s Ross Highfill at home to end the inning. Florida added two insurance runs in the ninth.
Aidan King struck out six batters in 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits, six earned runs and a walk. MSU starting pitcher Evan Siary finished with six Ks, four hits, two ER and two walks in four frames.

End of 9th: Florida 11, Mississippi State 8
The Gators put up a two-spot in the ninth, including an RBI single by Justin Nadeau to stretch their lead to three runs. Clemente closed out the game with his second straight 1-2-3 frame. He finished with six Ks, two hits and one earned run in 3.0 innings.
End of 8th: Florida 9, Mississippi State 8
A 1-2-3 inning for UF closer Jake Clemente. He struck out the first two batters and he’s up to four Ks. The Gators loaded the bases in the seventh and forced a pitching change before stranding all three runners on a pop up.
End of 7th: Florida 9, Mississippi State 8
A six-run inning for the Gators on three hits, including 2 RBI doubles by Brendan Lawson and Blake Cyr, who later scored on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs pulled within one on a two-run homer by Reed Stallman, but Cyr made a fantastic throw to Heyman at home for the final out.
End of 6th: Mississippi State 6, Florida 3
After Brody Donay’s leadoff single, MSU shortstop Sawyer Reeves made back-to-back plays to end the frame. Then it was three up and three down for Philpott, who threw his second strikeout and rebounded from the fifth inning.

End of 5th: Mississippi State 6, Florida 3
The Bulldogs scored four runs after UF regained the lead. King was pulled after allowing four hits in the fifth, including a 2 RBI single by Ace Reese. MSU then loaded the bases on Alex Philpott, who gave up back-to-back runs on a hit by pitch and single by Nolan Stevens.
End of 4th: Florida 2, Mississippi State 2
After a double by Brody Donay, he scored and tied the game on Ashton Wilson’s single to left field. King hurled his second straight 1-2-3 frame and fourth consecutive inning without no runs scored.
End of 3rd: Mississippi State 2, Florida 1
The Gators had the tying run on the hot corner with leadoff hitter Bobby Boser, who was walked, advanced to third and stranded. King pitched a 1-2-3 frame and he’s up to four strikeouts.
End of 2nd: Mississippi State 2, Florida 1
The Bulldogs loaded the bases on King after a hit batter, a single and a walk, receiving a mound visit from Kevin O’Sullivan, but he pitched out of the jam. Siary tossed a 1-2-3 inning for Mississippi State.

The Gators got on the board first after Blake Cyr singled to center field to score Brendan Lawson, who hit a two-out double. But the Bulldogs took the lead when Aidan King gave up a two-run homer to Noah Sullivan.
