Live updates from No. 12 Florida's 26-16 loss to No. 20 Kentucky

The No. 12 Florida Gators suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday night against the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats, 26-16.

The Gators now sit at 1-1 on the season with an 0-1 mark in SEC play. The Wildcats improve to 2-0 and are 1-0 in conference play.

Kentucky has now beaten UF two years in row, which hasn’t happened since 1976.

Fourth quarter

The Gators gamble on fourth and three from their own 40 yard line and fail to convert. Kentucky has a chance to ice the game right here with 8:36 to play.

Kentucky is unable to reach the endzone and settles for a field goal but misses the 38-yard field goal, and the Gators still have life. They’ll get the ball back at their own 20 with 6:13 left to tie it up.

Florida gambles again. This time, it was on fourth and six from their own 24 yard line. The Gators fail to convert, and Kentucky takes over with 4:02 remaining.

Kentucky increases its lead to 10 with a 26-yard field goal. Florida has 1:24 to make some magic happen.

Kentucky shuts the Gators out and leaves the Swamp with a 26-16 win.

Third quarter

Still a lack of offense from both squads to start the second half as both teams go three and out on their opening possessions.

With a little luck, the Wildcats produced a nice drive, but they’ll settle for a field goal. The game is tied at 16 with 6:35 left in the third quarter.

Just when the UF was driving, Richardson throws his second interception of the night, and it goes for six. The Wildcats have taken a 23-16 lead with 3:25 to play in the third quarter.

At the end of the third, the Wildcats lead by seven.

Second quarter

The Kentucky offense finally gets rolling with a 55-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Will Levis to wide receiver Dane Key. The Wildcats have taken a 7-3 lead with 11:36 to play in the first half.

An electrifying 40-yard run from running back Montrell Johnson sets up the Gators for a field goal. Mihalek hits the 50-yard field goal, and Florida cuts the Kentucky lead to 7-6 with 10:01 to play in the first half.

The Gators defense proves to be too much for Levis, and his pass is intercepted by UF defensive tackle Gervon Dexter. UF sets up shop at the Kentucky 34 yard line.

Running back Trevor Etienne leads the Gators to the endzone with a 12-yard touchdown rush. Richardson connects with Etienne on the two-point conversion to give UF a 14-7 lead with 5:49 left in the half.

The snap is way too high for Kentucky punter Colin Goodfellow, and he kicks the ball out of the back of the endzone. That results in a safety for the Gators, and they lead 16-7. They’ll get the ball back with 4:12 remaining.

Richardson throws his first interception of the game to Kentucky linebacker Jordan Wright. He returned the interception down to the 6 yard line. Kentucky will have 2:47 to work with.

Levis breaks the plane with a 1-yard touchdown rush, and the Wildcats have cut the Florida lead to 16-13 lead after they fumbled the snap on the point after attempt. The Gators will get the ball back with 1:25 to play in the first half.

Billy Napier and UF decide to run out the clock and go into halftime with a 3-point lead.

First quarter

After a short lived offensive drive, the Gators defense forces a quick three and out and will start their second offensive drive from their own 48 yard line.

UF marches down the field but is forced to settle for a 39-yard field goal from Adam Mihalek. The Gators lead 3-0 with 10:03 left in the first quarter.

The Florida front seven dominated the first quarter, shutting out the Wildcats. The Gators will head into the second quarter with a 3-0 lead.
