Micah Mazzccua will be limited when Florida Gators open fall camp
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators will open fall camp on Monday, July 31 but one of their key players on offense won’t be ready. Baylor transfer Micah Mazzccua will be limited when camp opens, while Florida maintains he is close to being cleared to play.
“Micah will just be there in a limited capacity the first couple of days,” offensive line coach Rob Sale said. “He’ll be ready to go soon.”
Mazzccua underwent shoulder surgery shortly after spring camp started and was sidelined. Surgery was successful but Mazzcua will continue to go through their
Mazzccua started 10 games last season at left guard for Baylor, allowing only one sack in 367 pass protection snaps. He was ranked the No. 2 offensive guard in the Big 12 by Pro Football Focus.
At SEC Media Days Billy Napier had this to say about Mazzccua.
“Micah is the one player who’s yet to be completely cleared,” he said. “He’s doing great. He’s on schedule. Certainly he’ll get reps and he’ll have his opportunity to compete. I think before his injury he showed that he’s very capable. There will be some things that come with missing time. Overall, he’s on schedule to be ready to go.”

Options on the offensive line without Micah Mazzccua
Florida will enter the season feeling good about eight to nine guys on the offensive line. That number will fluctuate throughout camp and Sale would like to see that number increase as the season nears. The Gators will have to rely on younger players.
“I do think there’s parts of our team where we’re going to have young players playing. But I think they’re talented. I think there’s areas of our team where injuries are important. But I also think we’ve added some experience. I think we’ve added some awareness, some maturity. We’ve added some veteran players I think that make our team better. In the two deep, I think when we get done with this thing, there’s going to be a ton of competition going into this camp, but I do anticipate as we approach that first game, we’re going to have young players that are going to be out there.”
One of those players will be freshman offensive guard Knijeah Harris. The three-star lineman was quick to acclimate to the college game after enrolling early this spring.
“Football comes easy to him. He looks like he’s been around here for three or four years,” Sale said of Harris. “He’s a freshman. It hits everybody at different times. Some guys need more reps, some guys get the concept (right away). He’s a good teammate. A good person and obviously a good player as well. He’s going to be a good player for a long time running for us.”
