Florida Gators running back Nay’Quan Wright was named to the preseason Doak Walker Award Watch List on Wednesday.

The award is given to the nation’s top running back each year at The Home Depot College Football Awards in Atlanta.

Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III won the award last season while being coached by current Florida tight ends coach William Peagler.

In 2021, Wright rushed for 326 yards on 76 attempts with one touchdown. He also proved to be an asset for the Gators in the passing game with 14 receptions for 178 yards and one touchdown.

One of the highlights of Wright’s season was when he helped the Gators to a 99-yard touchdown drive as a receiver and a running back. He finished that game with a season-high 58 yards on seven attempts and 18 yards receiving with one catch.

This season, Wright will be accompanied by running backs Lorenzo Lingard, Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne.
