No. 1 linebacker in 2024 class sets return trip to the Swamp

A five-star prospect and the No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 class is set to return to the University of Florida.

TJ Capers, a product of Miami Columbus, is attending UF’s season opener on Saturday, he confirmed on Monday when speaking with Gators Online.

The rising junior is one of several five-star prospects heading to Gainesville this weekend. Additional targets in that group include Cormani McClain and Desmond Ricks, the top-ranked cornerbacks in the 2023 and 2024 classes, respectively. Click here for the running list of unofficial visitors.

According to the On3 Consensus. a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Capers ranks as the No. 1 linebacker and No. 5 prospect overall in the 2024 class.

Last summer, Florida became the third school to offer him a scholarship after receiving a visit. As expected, the versatile defender has already been re-offered by Billy Napier’s as well.

In addition to the Gators, Capers possesses offers from Alabama, Georgia, Miami, LSU, USC, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Michigan and a boatload of others.

“Yeah, they re-offered me,” Capers said of the Gators on Monday.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, the hometown Hurricanes are trending with odds of 25.1 percent. Florida, however, checks in at second with a percentage of 21.9.

Scouting Report on TJ Capers

Longer-limbed inside backer who can cover, shed blockers and rush the passer all at a high level. Effective blitzer coming off the edge. Capers chases in backside pursuit to the ball carrier consistently. Not afraid to stick his face into traffic when playing in the box.
