Notable quotes from LSU's Brian Kelly, Jayden Daniels after beating Florida
It was a record-setting night for LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who became the first quarterback in FBS history to throw for 350 yards and pass for 200 more. It came at the expense of the Florida Gators, whom the Tigers defeated 52-35 at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
Here are some notable quotes from Daniels — and his coach, Brian Kelly — from after the game.
Kelly on Jayden Daniels …
“He’s the best quarterback in the country. He’s the best playmaker in the country. I’ve watched them all. We’re 7-3. That doesn’t mean anything. It matters who the best player is and he’s the best player.”
Kelly on Daniels ...
“He’s pretty good. Matter of fact he set an FBS record tonight, where he threw for 350 yards and rushed for 200. Just an amazing, amazing accomplishment. As you know, he was in a concussion protocol. But here again, talk about doing it the right way. Tuesday, he did not practice but he was out on the field. He took mental reps right behind the offensive unit, was attentive, had a play script in his hand. Did it the right way, prepared the right way on Tuesday. Wednesday, he was in a non-contact situation so he got all the work necessary so he was prepared. Because of that, he was able to compete at the highest level.”
Kelly’s offense accounted for 701 total yards
Kelly on LSU running backs Noah Cain and Josh Williams …
“Here’s two guys that haven’t played much at all and all they’ve done has been great teammates. They’ve done the little things the right way. And have practiced hard. And have waited for their opportunity and when their opportunity came, they delivered for us today. And for me, that gives me so much energy in this profession.”
Kelly on Daniels …
“I think we had six third downs today, so we didn’t have a lot of third downs. When we got into third down situations, they were either all or nothing in terms of what they did. They either brought six or seven up and then they’d drop everybody. And when they did, Jayden would scan and when there was nothing there he would just take off. And then when they brought pressure, he would stay in there and find the one-on-one matchup. When you have a quarterback that is that patient and willing to stay in there, obviously it’s helpful when you have balance with the receivers that we have.”

Daniels had an epic performance Saturday nigh
Daniels on his play style …
“I try to be more patient back there, let things open up — guys open up down field. But if I see a run lane, I’m going to take it and be decisive about it.”
Daniels on being in concussion protocol during much of LSU’s preparation for the game …
“You know, it was rough. Monday, we usually watch the film from the last game, scouting report for the next team and I wasn’t able to be apart of that. Obviousy, things were bothering me. Tuesday, just try to stay in the same routine. They limited me as much as possible but I still tried to figure out ways to keep my same routine or watch film. Just stay consistent. Tuesday, I was allowed to see (the other quarterbacks practice) and also be behind them getting mental reps. Just being dialed in as much as possible. And then, Wednesday and Thursday they allowed me to practice a little bit. Once you get physical reps, just trying to make the most of it — every rep I got.”
Daniels on if this was his Heisman moment …
“I mean, I would say so, you know, as humbly as possible. But I just thank God and my teammates. Because without them, I wouldn’t be in this situation.”
