O'Cyrus Torrence earns preseason All-American honor
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Associated Press Preseason All-American teams are out, and O’Cyrus Torrence represents the entire Florida Gators roster on any of the teams. The Louisiana guard was named a Second-Team All-American on Monday by the AP.
Torrence collects another preseason nod as he was named a Preseason All-American by Phil Steele, Sporting News, and Walter Camp. A native of Greensburg, La., he has earned preseason All-SEC honors by Athlon, Phil Steele, and media at SEC Media Days. A transfer from Louisiana, he was a Shaun Alexander Freshman All-American and a two-time Joe Moore Award Semifinalist.
The 2021 First Team All-Sun Belt selection, Torrence helped the Ragin’ Cajuns offense rank tied 10th nationally and first in the Sun Belt in rushing touchdowns (34), tied 18th in the country in total touchdowns (58), conference leaders, and tied 23rd nationally in first downs (313).
Torrence started three seasons for Billy Napier at Louisiana, where he didn’t allow a sack.
“First off, Coach O’Cyrus is a great player. I’m glad he’s on my team,” starting left tackle Richard Gouraige said of Torrence. “He makes our job a lot easier. I feel bad for the defense. Having him on the team has been phenomenal. Great player, great character. No complaints about him.”
He projects as the starting right guard for the Gators, who start the season on September 3 against No. 7 Utah. He started for
