GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators on Saturday landed a huge offensive lineman in the form of Lyndell Hudson Jr. Hudson, a tackle transfer, will have one year of eligibility left.

He flipped from USF.

Hudson appeared in 38 games for FIU and made 25 starts between 2019-22 after redshirting in 2018. He dealt with a nagging back injury in 2022, which limited his playing time. Pro Football Focus graded an 82.3 in 2020 as a run blocker, the best grade in that category for his career.

The Gators‘ offensive line could use depth, as showcased this spring. Florida was without left guard Micah Mazzccua and center Kingsley Eguakun. The offensive line struggled to slow down the defensive line in the game, which resulted in a low-scoring affair.

Lyndell Hudson profile

Hudson started all 12 games as one of the anchors of the FIU offensive line.

He was rated as the best pass blocker (among offensive linemen) on the team and the eleventh-best player on FIU’s offense in 2022 by Pro Football Focus. Hudson gives Florida a great depth piece on the offensive line. He has played both left and right tackles for the Panthers during his career.

Florida brought in two other transfer portal offensive linemen this spring. Damieon George (Alabama) and Kiyaunta Goodwin (Kentucky) competed in the spring at right tackle. While it would have appeared that Goodwin was taking the majority of the first-team reps during practice, he played at guard in the spring game. The two could be interchangeable at tackle and guard with Hudson being an option outside as well. Hudson played center and guard in high school but has primarily played tackle at the college level.

Hudson is the second player to commit to the Gators in the second portal window. Former Michigan safety RJ Moten committed to the Gators on May 2. Florida has brought in 11 players through the transfer portal, with most of those players enrolling prior to spring camp.
