GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The 2023 Florida Gators baseball team is just over a month away from Opening Day at Condron Family Ballpark. Thursday we get the first official look at the roster that hopes to end its season in Omaha.

The Gators were ranked as the No. 2 squad in the nation in Collegiate Baseball’s Preseason Fabulous 50. Florida returns a slew of starters from the 2022 team, including junior outfielder Wyatt Langford who tied the single-season home run record a year ago. Friday night starter Brandon Sproat also returns and Florida added the consensus No. 2 recruiting class in the country.

Florida was also successful in the transfer portal, adding five transfers in the offseason. That list is headed by right-handed pitcher Hurston Waldrep, who comes to Florida from Southern Mississippi. The junior who will likely throw on Saturday nights is one of the top-rated college draft prospects for this year.

There’s a name that will be familiar to Florida football fans on the roster as well. Gators redshirt freshman quarterback, Max Brown, is listed as an outfielder. Brown didn’t see any game action this season for the football team, taking a redshirt. He was a two-way star at Lincoln Christian High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
