While he remains in good spirits, former Florida Gators center Patric Young has a long way to in his recovery and mounting medical bills. Young was transported to Craig Rehab Hospital in Englewood, Colorado, where he will continue to recover from a car accident.

Now, a Go Fund Me has been set up to help Young, his fiancé, and their family through this difficult time.

“This is where we ask for your help. We are raising funds to support some of his medical bills that are not covered by insurance. (Most of his treatment will be covered, however, some items are not covered). Kindly consider donating to help him and Whitney cover costs for the airlift from the site of the accident to the hospital in Sioux Falls. This airlift, unfortunately, is out of network for his insurance plan,” The Go Fund me page reads. “Funds will also be used to help purchase a shower buddy chair, getting his vehicle adapted with arm controls so that he can drive, and adaptive ramps and doorways in their home. All dollars raised will go directly to medical bills and medical devices. Thank you for all your prayers and support at this time. Keep them coming!

Two weeks before his wedding, Young was involved in a single car accident. He was airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He spent two weeks in South Dakota, undergoing surgery before heading to Colorado.

Young continues to be in good spirits

Young posted this uplifting message before he left South Dakota to begin rehabilitation.

“For me to say that these last two weeks have been hard is beyond an understatement. I have experienced so many emotions from shock, disbelief, sadness, disappointment, and apathy.

“I’d been clinging to the illusion (of) control over my life for the longest time instead of giving it all to God. Even now my mind wants to go back to my accident and think of all the things I could have done differently. But the thing is my accident may have completely caught me off guard but God was not and that’s what gives me a smile!

“Of course, I would not have written a life-changing accident to be my wake-up call in life to stop playing life safe and putting my confidence in worldly things. But now I am in a situation where I must fully depend on God moment by moment day by day. Without the assurance of His love, proximity, and grace there would be no hope.

“One of my favorite scriptures is in the book of James. It states “Consider it PURE JOY, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. So in this trial, this testing of faith I CHOOSE JOY! Not because everything is great but because my Jesus is all the preparation I need and my Father is the lamp of my life one day at a time!”
