Is former Florida Gators defensive lineman Gervon Dexter trending up as an NFL player? Pro Football Focus seems to think so. The football-focused website has named the “Most underrated player on all 32 NFL teams ahead of the 2025 season” and Dexter was the choice for the Chicago Bears.

Wrote PFF: “Most NFL fans know the skill-position stars, but this list shines a light on some of the unsung heroes at the less glamorous positions.”

Dexter, who played for the Gators from 2020-22, was one of them.

Said PFF: “Dexter took a step forward in Year 2, delivering a 70.3 PFF overall grade, which ranked 24th among players at his position. His 39 quarterback pressures formed a top-20 mark for the regular season, coming in 15 games and across 356 pass-rush snaps, which ranked 39th at the position. Over the past two seasons, Dexter has been in on 10 sacks, which ranks behind only Montez Sweat on the team during that span.”

At Florida, Dexter, a Polk County, Fla., native, recorded 131 total tackles (50 solo) 18 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. The Bears selected him in the second round with the 53rd overall pick in 2023.

Dexter had 20 total tackles (13 solo) and 2.5 sacks as a rookie. Last year, he recorded 51 tackles (23 solo).

Veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, a recent addition to the Chicago roster, praised Dexter in a recent interview.

“It’s been awesome. I think he has a really really high ceiling,” Jarrett said, per A to Z Sports. “Run game, being effective in the pass rush, and growing as a leader too.”

Per A to Z Sports, “While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Jarrett spoke more about that leadership role Dexter has been showing this offseason. Jarrett revealed Dexter actually invited Jarrett as soon as he signed down to Miami to work out with him, Montez Sweat, Austin Booker, and other pass rushers from around the league.”

“I thought that was a big gesture for him to invite me to be able to hang out with them, spend some time, work on some craft,” Jarrett added. “I think that’s been good for our relationship even before we got in the building. That just showed his willingness to try to take that next step.”
