Randy Russell, James Robinson among newest Florida Gators grads
The start of fall camp is full of excitement. A new football season is just around the corner and you don’t want to miss a second of practice. That made it strange when three current Florida Gators weren’t at practice on Friday afternoon.
What’s better than practice? How about graduating from the No. 5 public university in the country?
Three current and three former Gators football players received their diplomas from the University of Florida on Friday as part of the Summer Commencement weekend. Receiver Trent Whittemore, tight end Dante Zanders and EDGE Brenton Cox Jr. all graduated Friday and will get to wear the “SEC Graduate” patch on their jerseys this season. Additionally, walk-on Chase DeMichele graduated this weekend with a degree in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management.

Safety Randy Russell and receiver James Robinson also earned degrees this weekend. Both players had their careers cut short, as Robinson (2017) and Russell (2018) each had heart conditions found during screenings after enrolling in school.
Despite the devastating news at such a young age, both stuck it out at Florida and are now graduates of one of the most prestigious public colleges in the country.
